Sarasvati (“Sara”) Segura is a Venezuelan-American
interdisciplinary designer and researcher working on urban issues at the intersection of culture and climate change.
Sara holds a Master of Landscape
Architecture degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. At the GSD, she received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship. Through her coursework and research,
she studied the diverse barriers to equitable climate adaptation in cities like
Bangkok, Paris, Buenos Aires, and New York City. Her project with
Vanessa Harden (DDes ’25), Rewilding a Mitchell-Lama Plaza, was one of
three recipients of the Real Estate Grant at the GSD in 2023. Additionally, Sara served as co-chair of LatinGSD, a
student organization promoting Latin American perspectives within the academic
community. In this role, she led a participatory process for the visual
rebranding of the organization to express the vibrancy of Latin American culture. She also contributed to the organizing of the Spring 2024 LatinGSD Symposium, Grounds of
Democracy.
In her professional consultancy role with the
Inter-American Development Bank, Sara contributed to environmental planning
projects in the Legal Amazon, focusing on peri-urban development and land use
changes in Brazil. Sara has also worked for multiple award-winning firms in Los
Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Boston. As an urban designer at
Perkins&Will, she contributed to several campus planning projects in the United States
Sara holds a Bachelor of Architecture
degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). Her
ongoing commitment to leveraging technology and innovation underscores her
belief in the transformative potential of spatial disciplines to expand social
impact.
